Social Security Income (SSI)
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program is a Federal government initiative funded through general taxes (not Social Security contributions). It provides monthly payments to assist with basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. The base monthly payment available to dependents varies depending on their living situation and countable income.
Depending on your situation, you may receive more or less. If you live in a state that raises the federal SSI payment, you could get more. You could get less if you have other income such as wages, pensions, or Social Security benefits. You might also receive less because someone pays for your household expenses or if you live with a spouse with an income.
