Short Term Disability Explained
The definition of disability under Social Security is different than other programs.
Unfortunately, Social Security does not pay partial or short-term disability benefits. That includes benefits for maternity leave. To receive disability benefits, your medical condition must: prevent you from working; and last, or be expected to last, for at least one year or result in death.
However, Social Security does provide disability benefits for long term disability. Learn more about our long term disability representation here.
